Antsistrus (Ancistrus) and others. How to Feed Right.
Usually, when buying the first aquarium, a newcomer to the store is offered as an addition also to have a catfish “suction cup” with the name Antsistrus (Ancistrus). Allegedly, it will eat algae in the aquarium and your glass will always remain perfectly transparent. And many people think, since Ancistrus feeds on algae from the walls of the aquarium, then there is no need to worry about additional feeding of this fish.
But here lies the mistake!
The fact is that for proper digestion, these fish need substances that they can not get only by eating algae. For example, cellulose (fiber). It is vital for their proper functioning of the digestive system.
For these purposes, snags are almost always placed in an aquarium with catfish. Snags contain everything you need for a complete diet of your pets. And recent studies have shown that some species of catfish in nature can survive for a long time by eating only one snag. Special bacteria that live in their digestive system help digest wood. (Here is link at the source).
But sometimes Ancistrus or another similar catfish lives in an aquarium without a snag. Or, because it does not fit there on the interior, or because of the fear of the owner that snag paint the water. And then come to the aid of special feed just for catfish such as Ancistrus, Plekostomus and others.

Do not be scared if you see the word "Ash" in the composition of feed for any animals. It is not ash from burnt trees. Simply, in this way it is customary to designate the content of inorganic substances or minerals in the feed, such as potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, magnesium, zinc and other elements. All of them are necessary and very useful for the correct and rapid growth of your pets.
According to the manufacturer, this food is made in the form of disks of a special shape, which are instinctively attractive for catfish such as Antsistrus, Plecostomus (Hypostomus Plecostomus) and other catfish, preferring plant foods. Disks from Hikari are dissolving very slowly, gradually releasing nutrients and, when used correctly, do not spoil the aquarium water at all.

The following feed is made in the form of double-sided tablets and made by the world famous German manufacturer. Tetra. And as usual, what this food is made of will not be found on the Internet. I searched at all international sites of Tetra. Tetra. It is written only that it is an optimal and balanced diet for bottom, as well as timid fish. And the new formula contains even more Spirulina to maintain health and vitality. But when we begin to study the composition on the package, we see that Spirulina is there in total 5%! Yes, and some of the ingredients in the composition of a little surprise. For example, milk and sugar.

In general, the composition Tetra I was disappointed and puzzled with my sugar and milk. At the same time, on large jars with food, such a beautiful icon with Spirulina. The manufacturer claims that the feed does not contain low-quality fish meal, but only processed fish fillets in the composition.
The only thing that is not on the site, but there is on the package, is that there is 10% wood fiber in the feed, which, as I wrote above, is very useful for digestion of this type of fish.

And further. From personal experience. Choosing your catfish in the aquarium, carefully study the information about them, including their taste preferences. I was so wound up Loricaria Atabapo. According to the structure of the body and mouth, it seems that the fish feed on algae fouling. But having studied the information on the site PlanetCatfish.com “Planet of Som”, I learned that they eat animal food, and indifferent to the plant. And even live in rivers where plants may be completely absent. And here are our other Loricaria “Red IScheritsa (Rineloricaria sp.
