Danio Glo (Danio Glofish): Genetics Miracles! Content and Breeding (Easy!)

Once, when I was a child and walking with my grandfather, I saw my parents coming towards me. Approaching us, my father pulled out a glass jar with several fish from under his jacket. So I learned that we had an aquarium and it was zebrafish were its first inhabitants. The aquarium was on 25 liters, in an iron frame, which constantly flowed. Times then were different, and wet joints we simply covered with child's plasticine.

But for me that aquarium was a huge underwater world. Even now, looking at the 200 liter aquarium, it seems to me that it is smaller than the one.

Those zebrafish were the original dark blue coloring, and the word "genetics" we did not even know at that time.

Danio Glofish. Who painted them?

In 1999, a group of Singaporean scientists decided to conduct an experiment and added the jellyfish gene to the body. fishes... According to their idea, such fish, getting into a polluted environment, had to change color, thereby helping to identify toxins in the water.

After presenting their experiences at the conference, businessmen became interested in this project. And now we have in the aquariums floating multicolored luminous "lanterns", with the genes of corals and other inhabitants of the seas.

Some say that such experiments are dangerous and harm humanity. But if you look into the depths of history, people have been doing this for centuries. Indeed, almost all domestic animals, such as cats, dogs and livestock, as well as fruits and vegetables, were born thanks to genetics. Just before, this science was in a more primitive form and was called “crossing” or “selection”.

From myself I will add that, suffering from some congenital genetic disease, I fully support “genetics”. After all, this is a completely different level in medicine! But back to our fish.

Danio Glo. General information.

Danio glofish artificially bred breed of fish, and in the wild it does not occur. And it is incorrect to talk about what kind of water it is from the planet. And even if it is populated there, due to its color, for a long time the fish will not live there. It will be an excellent target, both for predators under water, and for birds over water.

Her ancestors, ordinary zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio), come from small streams and rivers India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar.

Along with guppies and swordtails, it is considered one of the most popular fish in the aquarium.

Description.

The fish has a very elongated body that reaches the size in the 4-5 aquarium cm (2 inches). By coloring, they can be very different and bright colors. Light green, green, orange, purple, yellow, gold, red. Along the body and on the fins there are longitudinal stripes. If you watch my video with macro shooting, you can see the antennae on the sides of the mouth of the fish!

Interesting fact! Recently, in a correspondence with an experienced aquarist, I learned that real glofish should shine in the ultraviolet light. I purchased a flashlight specifically for checking the authenticity of money. So, really shine! Moreover, even glofish'es eggs are shining and even in sunlight!

Keeping.

Like its original cousin, the colored fish are completely unpretentious when kept in an aquarium. The only thing that the fish live in flocks, so the aquarium is desirable from 30 liters. They hold and take food from the surface of the water, so do not add a lot of floating plants to the aquarium. In wild nature zebrafish lived in pretty cool water (18-22), but it was a long time ago. And the current generation is adapted to the aquarium temperature, and danio glofish are considered more gentle and thermophilic. Therefore, the temperature regime of 22-28 C is a bold fit. The fish will get used to almost any composition of water. Within reason, of course. Fish live in the 2-4 aquarium of the year.

Feeding.

You can feed the zebrafish glo any kind of dry, live and frozen feed. The only thing that he was small and slowly sinking.

Compatibility.

Danio glofish, active and peaceful fish. Yes, there is a certain hierarchy in the flock, and the fish constantly chase each other. But they never do any harm to anyone, and it's quite interesting to observe such behavior. You can keep with any kinds of non-aggressive fish. The main thing is that they would not be very large.

Main conditions of keeping:
  • The volume of the aquarium from 30 liters.
  • The temperature is 22-28 C.
  • Food - any, not large.
  • Compatibility is active and peaceful.
  • Life expectancy is 2-4 years.
  • Breeding is not difficult.

Breeding.

How to Plant Danio Glofish at home, I already did a detailed post and video. You can read and see below. From an interesting observation I will say that when you plant a fish of a certain color for spawning, you can get absolutely different colors. For example, a green female and a pink male were given fry of all colors of the rainbow. Genetics is a serious matter;)

First there were coral danios, it was great! But now Sumatran, thrones and zebrafish with the prefix of the GLO personally do not just like me personally, but I feel sick of this nastiness!
